Post image for #BTG UPDATE Welcome to your #BTG Update. As it turns out, our Highly Sophisticated Research Study Operation has thrust us into a deep, dark place wherein productivity suffers and the time spent in restaurants–drinking—increases exponentially.  So, we thought we’d check in and remind you that we’re still here, and we’ll be back to full blogging capacity as soon as we recover from what is turning out to be a challenging, and slightly athletic endeavor. In the meantime, here are two random Haikus and a list of where we’ve been so far complete with a bite-size overview of each. Also, keep in mind that in-depth profiles on each and plus sommelier recommendations on where to drink in NYC will be posted after the study ends. So, keep in touch and follow the project via #BTG on twitter. Peace, love, and milk thistle, WC balancing my book, Paris admired my princes throughout my sugar India measured until the sugar inflated and the crayons asked 1.) Felidia, Sommelier Marica Viczian – One of the old-school haute Italian joints with a short list of recognizable WBG with a few geeky treasures. 2.) The Modern, Wine Director Belinda Chang – Easily one of the most impressive thus far. Perfect balance between old and new world, geek and classic–each with purpose and anecdote. 3.)Casa Mono, Wine Director Ashley Santoro – The end-all for Espana. Sherry list is impressive and set to expand. Bermejo Rosado from the Canary Islands worth visiting for. 4.) Convivio, GM/Wine Director Leonard Lorusso –An education in southern Italian wines to be had BTG. Well-priced and worth building a meal around. 5.) Hearth, GM Matt Stinton – From the non-interventionists, to the new world wines that are capable of changing one’s perspective—this is another great Greico temple to the odd not to be forgotten in the wake of the Terroir craze. 6.) Inoteca, Owner/Wine Director Joe Denton – One of the most dynamic list of Itals. Carafes are always a solid deal as they are essentially two glasses in one. Dettori Bianco and Bisci Rosso are standouts at the moment. 7.) Eleven Mad Park, Wine Director John Ragan –From Usseglio Roussane Pur, to Joly, to Trevallon, to Huet this is a rare and inspired list of top shelf classics. 8.) Del Posto, Wine Director Henry Davar – Great range from high end to affordable. Valentini Cerasuolo, Biondi Etna Rosso, and Hofstatter Pinot Nero ‘St Urbano’ are highlights at present. 9.) Tribeca Grill, Wine Director David Gordon – The BTG list that defies current trends–short, straightforward, country club-esque. Go by the half bottle instead. 10.) Dovetail, Wine Director Amanda Reade Sturgeon – Well-priced and strong on the classics with an excellent eye for the odd. Sherry selection not to be missed. ‘99 Musar, Movia Cab, and Equipo Navsus Fino sherry are highlights. 11.) Lupa, Wine Director Georgi Vladimirov – The 250ml Carafinas standard for all BTG pours are always an excellent value. Villa Crespia Franciacorta Rosato and Santa Maria Monica are standouts. Keep an eye out for an expanded rose selection coming soon. 12.) Franny’s, Owner/Wine Director Francine Stephens – Worth the trip over the bridge. Natural wines crowd the list and the quirk factor is always high. Ca ‘ de Noci sparkling Spergola, Villa di Corlo Lambrusco, and Sottimano Mate are standouts. Remaining this week: 13.) Gramercy Tavern, Wine Director Juliette Pope 14.) Ma Peche, Sommelier-at-Large Christina Turley 15.) Maialino, GM Patrick Service
