Welcome to WineChap’s newest column “Economical Expeditions” wherein myself (Talia) and WineChap contributor Zachary Sussman will be sailing a figurative tall ship around the world—possibly battling scurvy, mutiny, and dysentery—to chart some of the finest regions for value wines.
To start we’ll take on the wine world’s Strait of Magellan: Burgundy. For the next month or so we’ll be sailing North to South (from Chablis to the Mâcon) and will be covering at least one region a week. All of the wines we choose to taste will be available for purchase and consumption here in New York and almost all of them will fall under $30. Our quest is to chart the tenderloin territories that only a few traverse in order to prove that Burgundy is not just a place for gods, mythical beasts, and monster wallets; it’s a place where mere mortals can sip on celestial sauce for minimal coin.
Keep an eye out for tomorrow’s first posting on our tasting of 2008 Village Chablis.
Ahoy!
