With hail badly affecting the region, wines were typically interesting and varied, both in style and quality; from the appellation’s two superstars right the way down. Ch. Margaux’s refined intensity and wonderful balance starkly contrasted to Palmer’s precocious opulence, whose tannins (their highest ever on record) were masked by incredibly sexy fruit. Lascombes and Kirwan (the latter with a Korean film crew in tow – if anyone sees WineChap’s fawning interview please forgive me) were the bruisers, La Ferriere and Labegorce – the weeds.
WineChap’s picks: Palmer, Pavillon Rouge, Rauzan Segla, Malescot St Exupery, Giscours and Prieure Lichine
We will be offering a WineChap selection en primeur offer when prices are released later in the month. In the interim for full tasting notes and more details on this extraordinary vintage – as well as to request specific allocations of certain wines from our negociant contacts please email tom@winechap.com
