Continuing to offer stylistic diversity some of the most famous names in Bordeaux were up next: Lynch-Bages was a steamroller, but with freshness and excellent fruit; Mouton by contrast was impressively supple and succulent (not an ‘86er according to the winemaker) whilst Lafite was simply gorgeous; compact, stylish, graceful (despite a higher percentage of Cabernet than Cos) – Audrey Hepburn in a glass. The best of the rest of the appellation carried themselves with similar grace and elegance.
WineChap’s Top Picks: Lafite (wine of the vintage?), Carraudes de Lafite, Lynch Bages, Pontet Canet, Clerc Milon (NB - Latour not tasted)
We will be offering a WineChap selection en primeur offer when prices are released later in the month. In the interim for full tasting notes and more details on this extraordinary vintage – as well as to request specific allocations of certain wines from our negociant contacts please email tom@winechap.com
